fuck yeah, hard femme!

a celebration of fabulous femme folks who look just as tough as they do fly and a plethora of hard femme inspirations.

this is not a fashion/style blog; this is an identity blog with a large fashion/style component.

femme =/= female
please keep that in mind when reblogging - misgendering is rude as hell and easily avoided.

This is why I fucking can’t stand stupid hipster kids. Why the fuck are you sitting in front of that fucking flag? It’s not ironic. It’s not because you like history. It’s not because you’re remembering your grandpa or some other family member.
It’s because you’re stupid.

I hung this up(not my girlfriend) because I like history. History and WW2 is my hobby. Sorry that you think differently. Hipster? So, if I’m a Hip Hipster does that make you un-cool? Call me a hipster if you like, but I can’t even see listening to Saves The Day ironically. That’s super sad dude.

Someday when you’re an adult you’ll understand. Besides, if you can’t listen to the song “Through Being Cool” and get excited about life you’re truly way too into yourself.
You can certainly like history all you want. You can go ahead and place whatever you’d like on the walls of the place in which you reside. What you CAN’T do is post shit like that on the internet and not expect a response. You (and I) will never TRULY realize the baggage of a symbol like that as we will never have to endure what so many did. While we should never erase history, we should respect those enough that died in the process by never invoking the image that so many ran from. Literally. To save their own lives. And the lives of others. Your curiousity (or unfinished college degree) related to history is fantastic but it should never come at the expense of raising such a horrible, disgusting symbol that assisted in the attempted extermination of an entire group of people. Someone in the world is still profiting off of the death of 6 million people so long as people like you buy into that shit.
Why don’t you just go buy a vintage horror movie poster, or something like that? But I’m sure you liked it all before it was cool, right?

I like the Devo version of the song of the same name, but you couldn’t pay me enough to listen to crappy pop-punk. Ok, so the thing about that symbol is that is on a vehicle identification flag, which the German army used to mark their vehicles to avoid friendly fire. You didn’t know that, but that’s ok. The other thing that you didn’t know is that these almost never got used because the Luftwaffe got it’s ass kicked so hard that there was no reason for German vehicles to use these flags. These flags were supposed to replace the older ones which used a swastika sometime around 1941, but most collectors and historians aren’t quite sure when. I personally think it was a conscious choice by the army to distance itself from the Nazi party and it’s use of the swastika, but no one is entirely sure why the symbol was changed. So, no one went running from this symbol or flag. No one. Because it never got used. Because the Germans got their asses kicked in the air after 1941 or so. Knowing things is useful. This flag was liberated by a GI, unused, from the vehicle and was most likely a source of pride for the gentleman who captured it. I think that’s super cool. I like to think of the GI that captured it as a trophy, and showed it to his buddies, maybe he bartered for it, who knows? He probably got more use out of it than the Germans did. I do know though that a version of this symbol is still in use by the German army today. And this is the only version of through being cool that I ever need to listen to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_HH_jher3c
Oh, and I graduated, thank you.

Mark Mothersbaugh really appreciates your support and you’re attempt at teaching me about both music and history is endearing. The life of a bartender must be a trying one. I’m very proud of your graduation. Again, woe is the life of a bartender.
Your history lesson was incredibly engaging but I find myself not particularly giving a shit because it’s further proof you’re missing the point entirely. The very fabric of so many identities were threatened and poised for potential extinction. Waxing philosophical and putting on those fantastically beautiful rose colored glasses that you’d LIKE to see history through is ignorant and short sighted. No one gives a shit what you would LIKE to THINK happened. Your fantasy about a GI bringing back a flag as some kind of trophy represents the very thing that destroys honesty in history; the desire of, mostly people like you, to revere people that would do things you would never, at any point, be capable of.
Beyond that, why don’t we extrapolate that further. GIs at that point belonged to a generation that accepted the abuse and subjugation of women, children, the gay community, the mentally challenged, jews, racial minorities and on and on and on and on. Yeah, wow, your fantasy is so interesting! Great story!
You continue to engage in a market that profits from the death of 6 million people. But hey, it’s your house, so when people come over you can spend a lot of time proving to them that you’re REALLY smart and have REALY important opinions on things.

“you’re attempt at teaching me about both music and history is endearing.”
“YOUR.” I did graduate, and I also paid attention in class. Bartending is ok. What do you do? It’s not what *I* think. That’s the cool thing about History, them’s just the facts bub! I do find the GI’s impressive, I’m not sure how I would hold up honestly. GI’s did bring back a lot of trophies. “The French fought for their country, the English for the Queen, and the Americans for trophies.” It’s an old historian’s joke, but it’s pretty true. The GI’s, and the society that they lived in was deeply flawed, I agree.
I smell a lot of Ressentiment in this post. But, I *am* arguing with some guy on the internet who listens to Saves The Day. Kinda my own fault I guess.

Yes, even the strongest of men type the wrong word sometime. I’ll let you keep that win because it obviously means something to you. Strong men also cry.
You live in this really interesting world where you think history is static. History is rewritten daily. Beyond that, we view history through the lens which suits us best. Need examples? Talk to the guys in the pacific northwest who live on compounds and blow people and things up.
For whatever reason you are into glorifying war, death and the men that propagated it. That’s your choice and it’s your tumblr, right on. You also seem to get off on arguing about this in an attempt to feel smarter than the people typically making stupid arguments. Great, that’s fine. It’s your right. If you post shit in a public forum, expect people to argue. You obviously want people to know this is what your all about, hence you post it online.
You can spend your life viewing this shit romantically OR you could spend your life fixing shit that matters. As educators we spend our lives trying to make meaning for others (to prevent these very things) while people like you stand by and wait for things to comment on. Let me know how that works out for you from behind the bar.

“….while people like you stand by and wait for things to comment on. Let me know how that works out for you from behind the bar. ” really? i mean, are you actually serious? i’m trying to keep my mouth shut but this was too amazingly hypocritical not to comment on…
i have no idea who you are and have had no prior interaction with you. we have nothing in common so i guess you’re just into fatties? that would certainly explain the whole savior thing you’ve got going on… sorry you came on to my blog expecting pretty pictures and flipped a shit when i didn’t play by your rules.
he’s not “stand[ing] by and wait[ing] for things to comment on”, he’s explaining to you why you’re wrong. you’re sitting there denying facts out of pride, and you’re just looking more and more like an immature little boy.
taking shots at how eddie makes money is really super classy too, and definitely relevant.

I’ve followed your blog for awhile now, and I’ve loved your style and your posts and I’m really sorry that I’m going to have to unfollow you. But this is just too much for me.
Bringing your own meaning to any text (including historical items) is 100% acceptable and something which I personally have no problem with. But this flag is loaded with negative meaning for the vast majority of people looking at it. A disgusting, awful war, and a flag representing a political party trying to eradicate an entire people.
But again, hanging it in your home is your own business. Posting it on the internet and then being very aggressive and unaccommodating to people who are offended by it is another thing. You can’t slap someone and then decide whether the slap hurt or not. It’s ignorant beyond belief that you relentlessly defend this instead of saying ‘I understand that this could be offensive. I don’t find it offensive, and didn’t mean to offend anyone else. I’m sorry’.
It says a lot that in order to defend this, you had to go wildly off topic. All that’s important here is this:
To you: Not offensive
To others: Very offensive
Your reaction: not giving a shit that it offends anyone else.
The result: bad.
And just for the record, attacking someone for what they do for a living is deplorable and an unforgivable display of snobbery. Don’t derail an argument to attack the person, it weakens your stance hugely by making you look like an asshole.

have you noticed, the only timeracists are interested in their history is only from the people who cause the hurt and destruction in the first place. they aren’t keen on learning about the boring fucks whose lives werre destroyed by those who used this flag. nope, they just like the history that shows off what sick fucks white people were and continue to be ^.^
